What’s your European Story?

A pan-European search for stories that contribute to the richness of European cinema and increase opportunities to connect with audiences through a broader range of narratives and perspectives.

THE MAIN CHARACTER 12

Twelve unproduced screenplays selected for the inaugural Main Character initiative, will be announced at Göteborg Film Festival 2027.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIAS

• Have a completed screenplay that is unproduced

• Be the writer, writer/director, or producer of the submitted project.

• Authorised to submit the screenplay.

• Be a citizen or legal resident of a European country.

• Submit all application materials in English.

The submitted screenplay must:

• Be an original feature-length fiction screenplay (approximately
  70–120 pages), at any stage of development

• Any genre

• A fresh perspective on any topic that you believe is missing from the cinema screen from or about Europe

 

Required Materials for round 1​

 

Applicants must submit:

• Logline (300 characters/ approximately 50 words maximum)

• Short Synopsis (3 000 characters/approximately 200 words maximum)

• Statement: Why is this story a European narrative that must be told? (2 000 characters maximum)

 

Creative materials will be anonymised before being evaluated by the selection panel.
